The third clutch of gloydi

Jan Grathwohl May 29, 2003 02:39 AM

Hi

Well, I originally thought that I had two females and two males, but i have never probed any of them, and yesterday one of my supposed males began laying eggs... so now they joy will never end.. Untill now she has laid five perfect large eggs and one slug, but it seems at least four or five more eggs are comming. This is going hopefully to be a fantastic year.

Do all the clutches look good? Nice going, I'm sooo jealous.

Thanx a lot terry, but yesterday ended kind of sh**y. The last female laying died during the process, and the last five eggs, had to be surgically removed. It didn't seemed to be egg-binding, but rather the fact that she was heavily infested with blood mites. So now I know what my weekend is being used for. a throughout cleaning of the appartment and all the animals. We found mites on all our adult foxsnakes, gray ratsnakes and corns, and probably all other snakes will be infested to.

If any of you have good advice how to get rid of these creatures, please let me know.

Jan..real sorry to hear that!

I recommend treating the cages, not the animals. I have used "Provent a Mite" before. Other sprays might work, but I'm not experienced with them. Follow directions closely. Spray the cage bedding, allow it to dry for several hours, or overnight. Then put the snakes and water in. Treat them again two weeks later, and you shouldn't have any more problems.

I used Provent a Mite and it cleared up my snake fast as can be. To be on the safe side I used it on all my tanks, 25 at the time, and never saw another mite. The can still feels full too. Sorry for your loss, good luck with your eggs. Tom

Thanx Terry, Terry and Tom

Unfortunately we don't have that medicament in Denmark, but a similar product i think called Frontline Vet. I will have to try it anyway.

They are bad enough to show up let alone causing the death of one or more of your snakes. Alot of hobbyists and breeders that have had to get rid of mites recommends the same thing the others posted. Good luck Jan
