new RES in outdoor pond

lindav Oct 22, 2003 11:30 PM

Hi I just got two RES for my outdoor pond. I live in Burbank CA so it doesn't get very cold. The pet store said they would eat the goldfish pelets but is that enough to feed them? There are plants in the pond like Hyacinth and duckweed.

Any advice about food or other general things to keep them happy would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Linda

how funny, i live in santa clarita. anyway, how old are the RES? the little ones like to have brine shrimp. you can get it in the frozen section of the pet store.

and i dont know about the weather thing. i'd like to know what's bad for the turle. its like 50 degrees Ferenheit at night here. is that ok for the turtle?

anyway, good luck with your turtles!!!!

They will nibble on the hyacinth. Get them some reptomin as well and try feeding them some krill once in a while as well as chickory, escarole and some aquatic plants.

One thing -- is the perimeter of you pond secured so that the turtles cannot take off. They have a tendency to wander if not kept in a pond that has a fence around it, Just something to be mindful of.
