Hybridizing

arizonaherper Oct 23, 2003 12:03 AM

I have seen a few hybrids like Atrox x Mojave, Blacktail x Diamondback. Has anyone ever tried Blacktail x Mojave, or Speckled x Tiger, or AZ Black x Blacktail, is the Sidewinder capable of hybridizing with anything????? how about a Blue and Red Speckled what do you get, Blue and Reds or a mix? Not saying im going to try this im just curious if its possible.

I'm sure someone out there has tried every combination you mentioned and more but I don't think any of them are really plausible. Tigers and specks overlap in a handful of areas and I don't think a hybrid has ever been recorded. I would think that the rest are just too genetically seperated to produce offspring.

If you cross a blue speck with a red one you will generally get a few of each color phase. Occationally you might get an odd color but it's not like your mixing colors and blue plus red = purple. I heard of one account where someone bred a blue to a red and the babies came out a bright yellow color but they all died within 2 months.

there is a report of a cerastes hybridizing with a scutulatus, but I don't recall the specific paper...

the memory is the first to go right?
