Question about my burm

abeercan Oct 23, 2003 01:16 AM

Hey everyone,

Im not sure if anyone remembers but a while back i posted about a baby burmese python that i rescued that had a mite problem. Im happy to say that the mites are gone and he is doing great. I just have one question. Is it possible to over feed a baby burm? I fed him 3 nice sized adult mice 2 days ago 1 right after the other and today he ate another one but is still roaming his cage.I have about 8 mice left before i switch him to small rats. Would it be okay to keep feeding him A mouse a day until they are gone if he accepts them? or would that be too much. He usually defecates within a week of every meal. Thankyou very much for taking time to read this and thanks to all that reply. Im working on getting some pics of him so hopefully i can get them up as soon as possible.

Its not really possible to overfeed a growing burm. Feel free to feed as much as it looks like he wants to eat!

From what I've heard and understand, most burmese, retics, boas, will eat and eat and eat no matter how much you give them until they just over feed and start vomiting the food back up.

You might want to consider that, if you keep feeding your burm every 3 days, or whatever, to be consistant.

Cuz they'll grow, regardless if you are moderate or excessive to be 15 footers atleast. But what i'm trying to say is, if you keep feeding them so much, just know, that is what their bodies will get use to. All those calories. and then you start cutting calories, is like putting an overweight person from a 4000 calorie diet, to less than 2000. Its going to make them cranky.

So just think, be moderate, they are going to get big anyway. Just keep them fed to keep them happy. Last thing you want is a cranky burm when you start cutting down what it eats when it gets MUCH larger.

I hope I made sense and helped. Good luck.

Well then, how much should a 1-year old burm be fed in order to neither over or underfeed? It seems that people have different opinions. Brian or Rob, what do you think the ideal (or correct) amount?
