renter's insurance

mattk Oct 23, 2003 04:26 AM

My insurance company cancelled my renter's insurance because I own a dwarf caiman. Can anybody recommend an agency that supports croc owners?

Good luck...you shouldn't have mentioned you had one. The only way you will be covered is by liabilitity insur. and that's way expensive.

Never tell your insurance company you have a "dangerous" animal, a Rottweiler or a Pit Bull because they will drop you. The only insurance company that I've heard of that will cover you is Lords of London. Good luck!

Sorry, dont' have an answer for you... but I AM wondering how they found out... and the basis for the cancellation.

Insurance companies nation wide are doing this same thing. It would seem that over the years too many policies have been written, and too many claims filed. The companies just can't afford it anymore. As such, they are, in some cases, adding new clauses to their terms, or looking for good reason to drop policies. Many aren't even writing new policies now. They are even dropping policies on dog owners who have some of the so called "dangerous breeds" like rotts, and dobies. The only company I have found that is writing new policies is Foremost Insurance Group. And they still have the herp clause. If you want to get new renters insurance, I would try them. Just don't mention the herps.

An insurance is not too hard to get here in Germany, and not very expensive. ZURICH group Europe has a special insurance for keepers of "dangerous animals", but they cant insure you if youre in the US. Try ZURICH USA, I suggest.
Good luck,
Ralf

Our Herp society's liability is through Zurich of Buffalo via another agent.
