Worryed about my BD..............

Chargeup Oct 23, 2003 07:23 AM

Hi everybody, i am getting a bit worryed about my BD, im not sure if his trying to hibernate or not. he has never done it befor and i have had him for 3 years. he keeps disapearing behind a peace or cork bark in the cold side of the tank for days on end, in the end i have to get him out myself, and he is pretty cold, the tank temps are in the cold side between 79 and 82F and on the warm side there aroubd 97F normally during the day. should i be worried or should i just leave him be for the winter now? should i be checking up on him daily or will this just desturb his slumber? please could everybody who knows anything about this put in your input as any input will be greatley appreciated. P.S. he has recently had a checkup from the Vet and is A.O.K in health matters. thanks, Chris

Try rasing the temp to close to 110 on the hot side. That will help some: but is is getting close to time to hibernate and thats proobly what he is thinking also. hope this helps, Scott

His fecals came back clear then I wouldn't be too worried. You can offer him some warm soaks in the bath once every other week or so and you can drip water on the tip of his nose to see if he's thirsty. If he's not eating then don't worry. It's when they eat that they need to bask to digest the food so it doesn't rot in their stomach. A warm soak would help here too. And may get him to poo.

Beardies can brumate (hibernate) for months and hardly lose any weight as long as they are healthy. Just offer him water every day or every other day. Besides that I would just let him sleep it off.
