What a pretty bird. You have such a fun hobby, observing without harming them. D.

thanks again. I think the success you've had with your rudicollis is brilliant, by the way.

Hi DK,

Can you tell me if The Grampians Nat.Park in Vic. is a good place to find some Lace monitors?

Thanks,
Johan

crocdoc2 Oct 24, 2003 09:24 PM

Hi Johan,

I've never been to the Grampians, so I wouldn't be much help, but it is on the very edge of their range. Why the Grampians?

johan Oct 25, 2003 04:35 AM

Well, I'm a herp photographer and we'll be there feb.04

crocdoc2 Oct 25, 2003 09:12 PM

that's fairly specialised. Who are your clients?

Johan Oct 26, 2003 03:35 AM

We give slideshows and herptalks in Europe.
And the Grampians is on our route this time so
we were thinking it could be interesting to stop there.

crocdoc2 Oct 26, 2003 03:38 PM

what is the rest of your route?

johan Oct 26, 2003 04:04 PM

First Gosford Reptile Park.
Then we fly to Auckland for one week.
Then to Melbourne and from there north to Mildura,
then into SA for three weeks.

crocdoc2 Oct 26, 2003 08:55 PM

very unusual itinerary. If you really want to see lace monitors, why wait until you get to the Grampians? The area around Gosford is very well populated with V varius.

crocdoc2 Oct 26, 2003 08:57 PM

what other reptiles were you hoping to see?

johan Oct 27, 2003 02:15 AM

Doesn't matter what species we find as long we find enough different species.
Last year we did SA and NSW and found 85 species.
The year before in the NT 76 species.
That's not bad, I think.

crocdoc2 Oct 27, 2003 05:21 AM

that's a good effort!

Top end of the NT, or the centre?

johan Oct 27, 2003 07:31 AM

Started in Darwin. Then down to Katherine.(Nitmiluk Nat.Park)
From there to Victoria River and south to the Tanami Desert.
Took the Tanami Track to Alice. Then we did the McDonnel Ranges
and back up north Tennant Creek, Mataranka, again Katherine, then Kakadu and back to Darwin.

And last year we started in Adelaide, to Kangaroo Island, then north to M.Remarkeble Nat. Park, Eyre Peninsula, Gawler Ranges,
Flinders Ranges, then Broken Hill, Minindee, south to Mildura and over Renmark back to Adelaide.

Here's my e-mail: montblanc@tijd.com
Much easier.

Cheers,

email on its way

We only have a stopover in Sydney just to go to the Reptile Park.
Don't have the time to do anything else.
