Is my ball brumating?

ericthemantis Oct 23, 2003 09:37 AM

I have a yearling ball that I've had since April of this year. She's about 2 feet long. I recently placed her in a new 20 gallon long tank, away from the 20 gallon high she was in when I first brought her home. But since she's been in this new cage, she's climbed around and explored a little bit, but now she won't come out of her hide spot. She ate a little over a week ago; maybe 8 days ago. The UTH is just about 90 degrees constantly. Could she be wanting to brumate this early? Is it good for balls to start this young? Thanks.

What exactly is brumating and when does this typically start?

You're ball brumates when you TELL her to brumate (i.e. make her believe that it is 'breeding season') You have not done this, your temps are 90 constant. You ball is not brumating. The Ball Python Manual woudl be great info for you, as would the ball python breeding video from the Sutherlands. Look into them both.
