Humidity Question

Demona Oct 23, 2003 11:02 AM

My very young gecko loves his humid hide. He's almost always in there, except when he comes out at night to hunt. I have no idea how humid it is in there, but basically it's just a disposable tupperware sandwich container with a hole in the top and peat moss lining the bottom. I mist it every other day, and it always has condensation formed on the inside of the lid.

My question is this... My hygrometer says that the humidity in the aquarium itself is 60 %. I'm sure that the humid hide is much more than that, but....overall is he getting too much humidity? I don't want him to get respiratory problems or something. Also, I live in an area that gets rather dry in the winter but very humid in the summer. I really have no idea how to prevent the whole tank from getting super humid in the summer.

Younger leos require more humidity than adults do. She's probably comfortable where she is, so I wouldn't worry about it.
