My New Outdoor Pen

bast May 29, 2003 06:42 AM

This is a photo of my new Russian tortoise pen. It is 25 X 6 feet. It is an old cold frame once used to start/sustain vegetables through cool weather. I built a frame of 1 inch PVC pipe and covered that with hardware cloth to make a top. More to keep hands and predators out than torts in. It is secured with 1/4 inch steel cable drilled into the concrete and pad locked. Not Fort Knox, but something.

Since the photo the torts (12 russians) have eaten a lot of the greenery and I've added two 2 foot diameter X i inch deep water pans...just in case. Once the hot summer weather gets here I will cover parts of the screen cover to produce some shade.

Thanks for checking it out and please let me know what I could improve.

Brian

I'm pretty impressed. What part of the country are you from.
Have you had any luck with breeding your russians?
