This is Terrible!

wireptiles Oct 23, 2003 12:37 PM

hello floridians,

i noticed this ad today as i was just looking around. http://market.kingsnake.com/detail.php?cat=34&de=155709

this is one of the most disturbing ads i've seen in sometime! talk about total abuse and exploitation of your local fauna in florida! i'm going to try and contact state officials about this guy. of course, not being from florida, one of you might be able to bring this to the attention of the proper authorities quicker than i.

let's leave some herps in the wild for future generations to enjoy. thanks for your help.

Yes it is terrable with all the captive animals being bred ,why take wild animals and cage them up.but he is probably not breaking any laws,im not sure about all the laws on collecting wild animals .i bet alot of his stuff is starving by now and the people buying the stuff are just as LOWDOWN.just to save a few dollars...I wont even keep a wild corn...Let them be free and live natural...

Well for one thing he is not breaking any laws in the state unless he does not have his class III license to sell animals. Also most of the animals that he is collecting and advertising for sale are non indigenous species to Florida so he is actually doing a good service to our natural fauna. These non native species have taken over and in alot of cases cause some of our native species numbers to diminish and in some cases get critically low.

You are correct, Rob, in that some of the animals he is collecting and selling are not native. But, there's a bigger picture here. Obviously, from what he has available (Fl Kings, Scarlet Kings, etc.) he's not just limiting the 'round-up' to non-native species. Is this a one time thing, or does he go around the state and/or nation and round up native & non-native species?

At a herp store I go to sometimes, theres a guy always trying to pawn off multiple wild caught herps. And if memory serves me right, his name is Manny. Maybe I can find out more....
