>> poop!

x1angelbabyx Oct 23, 2003 12:42 PM

hi

my gecko's poop is still solid, but still has that wet coating. first i thought it was just a gooey coat, but the paper towel absorbs the wetness so you can see a "stain" and the poop just shrivels up. i have yet to get a fecal...

he eats 10 - 15 mealies a night that are dusted with REPITIVE and he eats from his calcium dish. he's not impacted because he eats, doesn't drink a whole lot, and i use a paper towel substrate and he doesn't pick at it to eat. the day temp on the warm side is between 88F - 90F and the night temp on the warm side is between 80F - 84F. also, there's a UTH on the warm side...the humid hide is misted once a day and my leo loves staying in there more than the cool hide now.

any ideas? or should i money up and get a fecal done? ((if i wait til the next day to do the fecal, the wet coating will be gone and it'll look shriveled...will that effect the results?))

thanks everyone

They kind of poop and pee at the same time, so the puddle you see is just the liquid urates.

the poop itself has a wet coating though... it drops next to the urate which a bit more dry compared to the poop...

and it's still normal? *holds my breath*

The white chunk is only one part of the urates. There's also the liquid part, and depending on how well Melvin is hydrated, he could have a lot of it.

i always thought the white chunk was all i needed and that the wet part meant "your leo's stool is runny!" so i freaked out.. i posted about it before... but i got even more worried because people keep posting that their leos died or have some parasite. it's one of those psychological things --- can mess you up!

I was like that too until I saw runny poop for the first time. Let me tell ya, when you see leo diarrhea, you will know it. The color of the poop is off, and it doesn't have a solid form to it.

... and I'm done talking about poop now. lol

Same thing with my gecko, the pooh when it comes out first has a wet coating, but that's just cause it's fresh. and then if i wait and let it dry up, I can see a slight wet stain on the paper towel, the pooh is all well formed and stuff too. So i got a fecal and the vet, and he said the gecko is probably just drinking a lot of water and is hydrated. She just urinates more, so there is all this wet stain on the paper towel. I figured as much since I always have water available to my gecko. I've only seen her drink once though, but i figure she must be drinkin while i'm asleep or she's be dead and not healthy, but she got a good checkup and all is well. don't worry bout, as long as the stool is well formed.

Is the dried yellow stuff attached to the white part urate? My gecko's poop came out looking like that half yellow half white (and then of course the brown on the side). Is this normal?

*whew!!!!*

i'm pretty relieved now... because when i read "watch for wet and runny stools".. i'm like.. OH NO!! hehehe~

and yeah, when it's fresh you can see the wet coating...but after the paper towel looks "stained" it shrivels up but there's this one part that still looks kinda gooey...

*whew*

i love my leo...

AND HIS TAIL IS GETTING BIGGER!! :D he's shed twice now, and all of a sudden he has these orange spots on his tail... i'm assuming it's having a carrot tail gene... but it's weird for me because i didn't think my albino would have that thought he'd just be banded yellow and pink~ there's a lot more of the orange being seen scattered on his tail after he just shed the other night... i'll probably take a digi-pic after his next shed!

THANKS EVERYONE... i'm sooo relieved to hear that melvin is good to go!

I'm glad to hear Melvin's doing great. You're taking good care of him, so I doubt you'll ever run into any of the problems you worry so much about.

Yeah, it's cool to watch all that orange start to show up on their tail. Here's my normal, Locke. He's the big guy who likes to stand on the half log and scream.

No, I haven't heard Tommy scream.

Locke used to bark at his crickets. If they happened to stop moving right under his nose, he would stare at them and make a soft "puh!" sound to startle them into moving again. I thought it was really neat behavior.

Lately I've been thinking that my leos make more noise than I realize. I keep three in my bedroom, and when I'm sleeping, I'll hear little yelps or gasps. I don't know who does it most of the time, because when I turn on the lights, they're not doing anything. I guess when one steps on the other one's tail, they'll cuss each other out. lol
