What do you 'do'?

LeoBeginner Oct 23, 2003 01:40 PM

After reading most of the posts in the forum, it seems like there are people from everywhere, and from every walk of life.

Since we found out earlier this week where everyone's from, I was wondering what everyone 'does'.

I wonder if there's any kind of trend in Leo ownership (like Bio majors or something), or if its just a grab bag of people who've someone gotten into it. From the talk by some breeders, it sounds like some people have a heavy background (or atleast a strong interest) in biology.

So what do you do (work/go to school/live as a drifter/hobo/cock-fighting referee)?

I'll get the ball rolling:

I'm a 4th year University Student (Mechanical Engineering) working on a co-op for 'the world's largest automaker'.
And yes, we are about to start building a car named after a french term for self gratification...(see earlier posts)

i'm a 2nd year college student at the University of San Francisco. i major in nursing - but before coming to college, i wanted to major in computer science...but then the pink slips rolled in and a lot of people lost jobs - nursing seems more stable to me - plus i feel like giving back to the people and helping them out because i almost lost my life during my junior year of high school...but thanks to those doctors and nurses... i'm still alive! (that's when i decided i wanted to go into the medical field) -- i plan to be a managerial nurse so i still work with people, but also get to work with computers win/win situation for me!

i got into leos 2 months ago. i got my 1st leo last month... and my brother and i are planning on getting frilled dragons next year.

I used to have Frilled Dragons. I was going to start breeding them, but I lived in an apartment and didn't have the room they needed. So, that is why I decided to get into Geckos. But, Frilled Dragons are really awesome. Good luck with that project.

Frilleds are the best. I used to have 3, 2 males and a female. Broke my heart when I had to sell them. I had the perfect cage and everything. My fiance and I are getting a house now so, I may get back into them eventually. I think I still have some pictures of them, I will post them if I find them, I may have to scan some in.

Thanks

last semester i took a microbiology class. in addition to the 2 hour lecture, we had 4 hour labs! but after a while, i started thinking if it's a major i wanted to switch to... i thought labs were fun, no matter how much everyone else complained. i wanted to work in labs at the hospital... i ALMOST switched but i'm stuck in the nursing program. i'll still be thinkin of it though

is it rewarding? i'm not talkin bout money-wise.. but are you happy with all you've been through and career-path wise?

I'm a 5th year Electromechanical Engineering student at Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. No, i'm not behind in my class work, it's designed to be a 5 year program, because it is essentially a double major of mechanical and electrical engineering. =)

I'm farely new tot eh world of Leos, or herps for that matter. I got Jak the first week of September.

I plan to get into the area of research and developement for robotics after graduation. I've had 2 summers worth of experience doing this sort of stuff working at Deka Research and Developement in Manchester, NH. These are the guys that invented the Segway, but I didn't work on that project. I worked on the iBOT, their wheel chair that, among other things, can climb stairs.

Alright, i've bored you all enough.

I even considered nursing a couple of years ago, but I decided that I didn't have the motivation for it. And I thought about going into law, which is why I work for a lawyer right now. It's a good thing I got this job, because now I know that I don't want to go into law.

you're dippin into all the sauces available!

i think it's cool to test the waters, because i'm already thinking of changing i'm thinking of biology and zoology as a double major... but then again biology if i wanna get back in nursing - also coz i'm allergic to furry animals that shed!! that would suck, huh? working with a cat and i start getting hives and can't breathe... i also thought of herpetology... i think i should just do biology so i can do all of em eventually nursing is cool sometimes, but it's HARD!!

if i was you... i'd think i'm over worked... lol ... but then again, i am lazy

First i gotta say WOW!!! Its amazing to read what everyone is doing.

I went to university for a year and took joint psychology/ socialogy major, i wanted to work with depressed/suicidal kids after years of being there myself. I was on the First Responce Medical Team while there and loved it. Before that while in public and high school, i wanted to be a marine biologist. After university fell through i went back to work for a picture framing store which i co-oped at while in high school. They hired me once my co-op was finished. It was a good job but not what i wanted. I saw the PSW (personal support worker) course available and went for it.
So I'm a PSW currently supporting the activities of daily living for developmentally and physically challenged adults. Thats the politically correct way to say i take care of people. Taking care of others seems to be in my blood.

I wanted to work in a hospice, still do actually. Its working with the terminally ill, something i seem to be able to handle quite well.

As for geckos, i've loved lizards all my life, even as a child. I'd be notorious for bringing something home, be it frogs, toads, snakes hehehe even birds. I have a passionate love for dragons too and having lizards of any sort is kinda like having a real life dragon. I have a great appreciation for animals and nature and actually prefer my geckos over most of the people i know. I'll most likely turn out to be an old woman known to all as the Lizard Lady, living by herself in a house full of lizards hehehehehe.

i don't think it's lame either it's actually pretty cool~

in high school, i never wanted to enroll in a college course because i was always thinking about how far away college years were and how lazy i was... i was a major slacker but still managed to keep a steady B GPA on top of all the clubs i joined to add onto my college application even at the clubs, i was always at events, but practices and meetings i never attended. i didn't realize i was the VP of one of the clubs til the end of the year and got an award for doing nothing so you taking on a college course next to high school is pretty admirable. good job on that, i wish i did it too!

and all those pets...wow... you got horses? crazyness where u livin again?!

Right now I am currently working as Support Systems Analysist for WebMD (a company that develops and supports software for doctor's offices and hospitals). I recently moved to Arizona, and just haven't found the right place to begin teaching. Gotta wait for the '"YEAH" that's the place' school before I commit.
