new baby snow corn ??'s

TracyR Oct 23, 2003 02:00 PM

Old pro at tortoises but new to snakes. I have a 10 gallon with secure lid, 2 hide boxes, water bowl big enough for soaking, heat pad on one end, temp between 76 and 80.

What kind of substrate, besides news paper? Is dried out cypress mulch ok?

Should they be misted ever? or completely dry?

Is UV lighting needed?

Are they aboreal? Would climb sticks be helpfull?

Thanks,
Tracy

You might want to add a heat lamp to the cage. I believe the temp should be 85-90. A 60 watt should do nicely..

I like/use fir bark, also sold as "repti-bark". I looks nice, smells good, and helps with humidity..

I mist once a week on the warm side. I spray more often when it is hot outside, or when snake is going through shed...

>>>Is UV lighting needed?

NO, cornsnakes are naturally nocturnal and do not need the UV..

>>>Are they aboreal? Would climb sticks be helpfull?

YES, they are some times. Sticks will also be helpfull when shedding..nice to rub up against... My corns love climbing all over their "tree".

Dont forget to feed in separate container.. If you have tiny hatchling, a 10 gal tank is HUGE..and will have hard time finding its food... It is a good habit to feed in something other than its home.. and WITHOUT substrate to cause problems..

FOR REALLY GREAT INFO...PICK UP THE "CORNSNAKE MANUAL" By Kathy Love... Best book on cornsnakes!!!
