I am no newbie at snake keeping, but I am also not ignorant to the fact that no matter who you are, there is someone out there who knows more than you. In this case I know there is a number of you out there who no more than me.
About 6 months ago I purchased a yearling reduced pattern female ball which came with a free 5 year proven breeder male. At first I didn't know why, but when they showed up it was obvious. The female was beautiful, but the male was a wreck. He had a bunch of partial shed pieces still on him, and the tip of his tail was thick with at least 10 sheds that had stuck and never fell off. He also had one eye cap on. He is a ravenous eater, he has become my garbage disposal. He will eat a dead room temperature rat that has sat in another cage all night. After getting him into a good enclosure and keeping the humidity up, not to mention soaking him in heated water, he has lost everything but the eyecap. Every shed he loses the eyecap that was still on, but keeps the new one. I don't really have a vet in the area I can trust, I just moved here a year ago. I was wondering if there are any more ideas. I have tried the wet cloth bag and pulling it off with forceps, but it doesn't want ot come easy, and I don't want to do damage.
Anyone have any ideas? Please help me, I want to get him nice and pretty so I can take him to my class. I am a high school biology teacher and I think he would make a great class pet.
