Mealworms

DeltaWoods Oct 23, 2003 03:46 PM

The other day i was about to feed my leo when i opened up the container for the mealworms and found them all not moving. None of them were moving and all the oatmeal that they were in was blue. I am assuming this blue stuff is mold. They werent shriveled or anything. I thought they were all dead. I keep them in a small plastic container with a few potato slices for moisture. I put that containter aside and got some other mealworms out of the fride so my leo wouldnt be hungry. Now here comes the weird part, i went back the next night to see what was going on in the containter with all the "dead" mealworms and i found them all moving around as active as ever. Does anyone have any ideas what cuased this? It has actually happened a few times and ive had to throw away quite a bit of mealworms because i was worried they had eaten the blue stuff and i didnt want to feed my leo the mealworms incase the blue stuff was harmful. Thanks

I'd say the blue stuff was mold so don't feed it to your gecko. As for the moving later on - did you keep them in the fridge? Cause if so, keeping them refridgerated really slows them down and causes them to kind of hibernate.

They temp of the room they were in was about 75 degrees so i dont think that was it. Thanks though.
