After playing around with different gutloads for years, I have finally settled with a method that was suggested to me by Allen Repashy(of Crested Gecko fame). I'm sure alot of you are aware that he has developed a Crested Gecko Diet that is distributed through t-rex. Well, there is a whole line off supps. that utilize all of the same ingredients in different species specific formulations. I spoke to Allen at lenght about gutloading and supplementation and what I have gotten out of these conversations have changed the way I think about the whole subject. Anyway, it's beyon the scope of this post and it would be quite a rant. In a nutshell, All I use to gutload my mealies with is something to keep them alive like mixed flaked babyfood and fresh carrots. The good stuff (vitamins, minerals , and macro nutrients) comes from what I keep on the bottom of my feeding dish. I use Allen's gutload formula. It was suggested by him instead of his leo formula. It serves a dual purpose of keeping mealies alive and supplementing the gex. He said that many large scale breeders have been using a similar bird supp. product called Vionate for years. Well Vionate is corn based where his formulation has many other great ingredients in it. Using this method there is no need for any other supplementation and no fear of overuse.
