Help! Strange behavior in one of my garters....

nimdu Oct 23, 2003 03:52 PM

Greetings all you Garter Fans...I' the owner of two Thamnophis Sirtalis for a bit more than a year now. They where 2 weeks old when I bought them. One of them as always proven to be a HUGE eater , throwing himself mercylessily at any food item presented...the other is a bit clamer , less active and with a smaller appetite.Recently , my active ever hungry big favorite as displayed a lack of appetite...eating about 1/6 of what he would normally eat in a week...however , already was he the most active , his activity DOUBLED...i belive he now only sleeps out of sheer exustion , spending most of his time crawling in a specific corner of the terrarium as if wanting to flee...He stays there , day and night and throws himself on the glass.I don't even think he sleeps at all.He usually became that active when very hungry , but he refuses interest in food presented. No sign of parasite activity can bee seen in the terrarium and my other more quiet garter is in better shape than ever , his appetite having even grown a bit recently !!I'm confused and do not what to do , this is my favorite snake and i would be sad to see it die. As i said...he still does eat...a bit...but his behavior is highly disturbing...any idea why and what should I do ???

Maybe it's decided that the time has come to find a brumation site.
