Sad Story.......

lanierreptiles Oct 23, 2003 04:52 PM

I am a chef at a bed and breakfast in Lebanon, TN..just east of Nashville. I was at work today and suddenly heard everbody in the banquet hall screaming...I went over to check it out and to my horror....One of the waiters had killed a baby timber rattler in the banquet room. I am a reptile lover and was so pissed that he had killed it. we didn't have a function today, but they were setting up for this weekend. We are located on 100 PLUS acres of farmland...And if they would have got me before killing it I would have released it way back of the property. EVERYONE there knows i love reptiles..We usually have 5-10 snakes in the place every summer and I am ALWAYS called to the rescue, but this time the baby snake wasn't so lucky. I am the executive chef there so I told the waiter to go home because i was disgusted with him for killing it. Probably the wrong move, but i really dont care. The timber rattler was about 8-10"....grey with black stripes accross. We usually have to deal with about 2 rattlers a year there...this was the first we had this year. Anyways...thanks for reading..just had to vent a little frustration.

Instead of venting here, you should have contacted Tennesse Wildlife Resource Agency, the Timber Rattlesnake is a protected species and it is unlawful to capture or kill this animal in the state of TN...

I know exactly where you are talking about. I live in Murfreesboro. That really makes me sick, but I hear it all the time. I was in Aquatic Critters the other day and a guy came in and said that he had found a beautiful timber rattlesnake. I asked what he had done with it and he said it was in his freezer. Glad to hear that there is someone else close by that is trying to look out for our timbers.
