LizardLuva Oct 23, 2003 06:54 PM

I have posted this before and had no luck.
Okay here we go, this is for new lizard pet(s) I'll give u info for the right species!
1. I am only 13 and my parents have already oked one lizard and i might be able to get another. Lets do the first lizard!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
2. I have been saving up money (have about $60 from doing extra chores and money i have found, for about a month )
3. I want something not too expensive to buy, under $100 for the animal(not everything else)!! I dont want to have to go out and buy a $400 lizard, then get everything else.
4. I want a Lizard at least 12", but not over 4 feet(SVL)
5. I have kept Anoles, skinks, garter snakes, geckoes, turtles, so Im not a beginner but not an expert.
6. Not strictly carnovorus of mice/rats, due to little brother keeping rats.
7. I want something hardy, something i can handle and chill out with.
8. Something not too aggressive, like i said before i want to handle it!
9. Something thats not too high matience. I want something that i can get too everyday, do what i need to do, feed it , and be done with maintaining, then play for a long time!! not like im on 24 hr watch for anything thats a slightly out of order.( i do have school)
10. Something that i could find at an expo, not too exotic.
Species i was looking at:
Savannah Monitor
Blue-Tongue Skink
Iguana
Not able to get:
Bearded Dragon(means my parents wont allow it)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Species #2 (this is a little more flexible)

1. Something that can be kept in less than a 20 Gallon Tank(prolly ten gallon for just one)
2.Again Insectovorus
3. Under $25
4. Something i can watch, doesnt need to be handled,(but if it does its a bonus)
5. Something relatively easy to find.
6. Over 6" but under 12"

Species i was looking into:
none yet

Species not able to get:
Leopeard Gecko
Anole
(i just dont want these)

Are you going to keep posting until you see an answer you want? If you want a lizard so bad, buy a few books and do your own research.
-----
Peter: It's OK, I'll handle it. I read a book about something like this.
Brian: Are you sure it was a book? Are you sure it wasn't NOTHING?

Well I'm thinking collared lizard.. And why the hell will your parents not allow a bearded dragon?

LizardLuva Oct 24, 2003 07:59 AM

well, i know that beardeds are attracted to red. Well we were at the pet store(very nice one) and the big male bearded followed her around in his cage, my mom doesnt like snakes, and this just creeped her out, so thats why...

No luck? Um, let's think on that one a minute. Didn't I say a captive bred collared lizard might be a consideration?

Do you have a herp society near you? You might want to consider going to a few meetings and talking in person with the "old timers". You can check for a society at http://www.anapsid.org

Herps societies sometimes do rescue, and there are other rescue groups, so check anapsid.org for a rescue, too, because if you proove to a rescue that you have the proper know-how and capabilities to care for a pet long-term, you might be able to adopt a gecko or anole or other lizard.
