problem with vent?

mistysprouse Oct 23, 2003 07:54 PM

ok I just got a rescue snake (who was under feed). When I got her (sunday) she was shedding so I didn't play with her. Well today she finally finished shedding, so I picked her up and noticed that her vent is red. I was told she layed 4 eggs I don't know how long ago, or if that is even the cause. Anyone have any ideas? I might take her to the vet tomorrow, just to make sure everything is ok. So any help/ideas would be great

come on someone please tell me if this is normal and I am just freaking out for no reason, or if I really should be freaking out

it could be a couple things
i would guess either a burn from the UTH or belly rot
i don't know if it looks like that after it lays eggs cause i've never bred any snakes b4 but i'll bet that doesn't happen when they lay eggs

take it to a vet tomarrow
good luck

so I just took her out again and it seems to be cleared mostly up, strange. the spurs (correct term?) seem to still be a little discolored. still think a trip to the vet will be good so I can have peace of mind

Leave her alone for a couple of days. It could just be an irritation from the shed. The condition will most likely clear itself. You could also put a touch of Neosporin.
