Shedding Problem I think! Please Help!

rubixcube2k3 Oct 23, 2003 09:30 PM

Hello All again from the dirty south! I'm having something that looks like it could be problem with Monty, my older ball python. I've had him for approximately 2 months now. During which time he's shed once. It was a very rough shed, and pieces of the old skin still remain on his head. About 5 days ago, his skin began to haze as it did before his last shed, so fearing that he may be getting ready to shed, I bathed him for 20 mins, being that his tank is not quite large enough currently to put a bowl for him to bathe in. Well, his skin is now extremely scaly to the touch, but his eyes have gone clear again. I'm not sure what's going on, please help with any advice that you can offer.

Their eyes will go clear a day or so before they shed. If you don't have a water dish in your enclosure, (which I recommend that you get soon, it's a necessity) that you mist the enclosure with an atomizer to increase the humidity. Should do the trick.

My Dudley and Courtney do the same thing! The first shed was much like my older snake's sheds, but their second and now going on third is JUST like you described.
I had posted, VERY panicky I might add, about it a few weeks ago. I am sure it is still in the archives under patchy skin. I wouldn't worry to much about it. After Courtney shed, she was back to her normal color, maybe even a little more orange. :0)
