Need mushroom spores...any for sale?

shopaholic Oct 23, 2003 11:09 PM

Hi Folks: I was wondering if anybody has any safe spores from Mushrooms they have grown successfully in the dart tanks? I would be interested in buying some. Hesitant to go outside and collect wild ones because I don't really know what I'm doing.

Thanks,

Maggie

you have to be very careful when culturing shroom spores.Depending on what you're growing things need to be extremely sterile for it to be considered safe.

What do you mean by "safe"? I don't mean to sound Clintonian here, but what is the meaning of "safe?" I've grown a lot of mushrooms from spores before, either for eating or just because, and they either grew or they didn't. I never thought about there being any OSHA standards regarding "safety."

I don't think OSHA is the right agency. If "safe" is meant for the "grower" then I think it would be the FDA. If "safe" is meant to be for the "mushroom" then it would be the EPA.

Hi Patty and the gang:

By "safe" I mean 'won't kill my frogs suddenly without warning causing me great distress and hypervigilance resulting in the addition of yet another reason on my list of never ending worries of why death and destruction is always eminant.' or 'won't cause a foreboding feeling that a mysterious agent will slowly cause irreversable harm to the frogs, the viv and to me'. Believe me, I wish I did have OSHA requirements or FDA requirements for the Vivs to assure me sometimes that all is well. So I ask the gang to see if you might be able to be a substitute for them. Thanks, Maggie
