Phenomenon?

Shaky May 29, 2003 09:13 AM

Never noticed this before, but once I did, it was everywhere:
I was looking at my yearling anery, and saw that her color is rapidly changing from blacls to a pinkish-brown. I'd seen this before, but then I REALLY noticed that she is losong almost all dark pigment on her head.
I went searching pics on archives and websites and noticed that almost every anery A I see loses lots of dark head pigment.
Is this a trait that is taken for granted , something that is bred for, or something that happens in many or all morphs and is simply more noticeable in anerys?
This feels like a newbie question, but in 3 years on these forums, I haven't ever seen this discussed.

I think this is just something that happens in most corns and it is more noticable in anerys. Most of my adults have pretty much no black on thier heads and have very little definition. There may be one or two that have good background color/blotch color definition. The ones that I have with defined head pattern are much more attractive IMO. I don't know what makes them lose that pattern but I know the majority of them do.

my okeetee has lost nearly all of his black on his head now, and he's only two. I noticed even my hatchlings have far less definite BLACK on their heads than anywhere else. But I've only been in corns for 9 or 10 months now so I don't know if this is the norm or not:-P

I've noticed this about the 02 anery we have also. Closest to his head and about halfway down his body the grey areas are becoming lighter and more brown colored. I actually haven't had him long and was really concerned when I noticed this the first time. I'm glad to know I am not the only person to notice it.
