Another FBT issue

trvlbuny May 29, 2003 09:25 AM

Yesterday when I got home from work mysteriously there were only 2 FBT's in the tank. There were 3 the night before. I checked the lid and it would have taken a very, very strong toad to get the top off considering that it took me a little to get it off. What could have happened. I turned their tank pretty much upside down looking for it. Of course the 2 remaining were not happy with me about that. Could it have died and been eaten? Will they eat their own? I feed them quite often so I wouldn't think they would have been that hungry. I think if something happens to the last 2 we are going to stick to our basic fish tank.

I doubt it got eaten, they dont eat thier own.it probably escaped by climbing on something, and jumped out of the tank.

Put out a bowl of water just incase the little bugger climbed out. It'll dry up quickly and be looking for something to soak in. If you have any other animales (cats) watch them for signs of illness in the next couple days. (vomiting, loss of appitite) just incase they ate the toad. If the symptoms show up take them to the vet ASAP!!!

I'm so sorry one has disappeared. Same thing happened not to long ago to another from the board

Thanks for the reply. I am still trying to figure out how the little bugger climbed out. It is virtually impossible to get out of that aquarium. If I find it and it is still alive I think we will be renaming it to Lance Burton or someone else.

depending on their size it isn't all that hard for them to find a way out. Do you have any cords running into your tank that might shift the lid a bit or maybe through a small hole in the lid? Put a few water bowls out just in case. Maybe 1 in each room or sonething. I really hope you find the lil bugger.

I'm sorry about your loss, I've actually lost two fbt's myself. Firebellies are the the magicians of the frog world. Getting out of there cages, if there's the smallest hole!

My first toad was lost when on vacation. My "friend" forgot to put the lid on the toads cage!!!! He got out, to say the least I was angry to find out!

My second toad lost was a brand new one. His lid was perfect,...except for one thing. It had a whole like the size of a nickel. Figuring everything would be ok, the next morning I woke to find no little fbt.

I'm so very careful with all my froggies now!!!
I have learnt my lesson. My mom actually came with a little dusty dried up toady. I almost vomited, it was disgusting. Not sure if I was close to vomiting with, guilt or disgust.Or both,
well, my prayers go that you find your toad
