When I bought my beardie, his breeder recommended this all-in-one bulb which had everything my guy needed. So I purchased one for $75. He said that they can last up to 18 months, but to be sure to replace it after that b/c they lose their effectiveness after so long. Well, mine has lasted, and I need to replace it. But, after reading this forum, I went online to look up Mercury Vapor bulbs and found some for only $35 at http://www.bigappleherp.com/Pages/Product/261800.html

Is this what I need? I've only bought what he told me before, and this doesn't look like what I have. It also doesn't look like it will fit into my light casing.

Help, anyone?

Why was mine so expensive, then? What is the average you spend on an all-in-one bulb?

This is the one you want......

www.reptiledirect.com/product.asp?0=212&1=213&3=37

They are about $34 and are one of the best on the market.

Depending on where you got your other one can greatly influence the price you paid. I have seen the bulbs at the link above for DOUBLE that price in pet stores!

Yes, those are the same kind. They are called mercury vapor bulbs. They give off both uvb and uva light. Check out www.reptiledirect.com there shipping is might be a bit cheaper, and you come out spending less for Zoomed powersuns which is one of the better bulbs. Take a look at www.beautifulbeardies.com uvb bulb tests. You can get an idea on the difference there can be from one brand to the next. I've also used the Capture The Suns that you are talking about for 35 dollars. They are not bad, just personally I had better luck with the Zoomed Powersun. Also Zoomed offers a guarantee for one year. So if the bulb happens to blow in 5 months you get a replacement guaranteed for the remainder 7 months. Check a few different places out, and watch for high shipping, some places will offer a very low price, but they get it back tacking on a few bucks too the shipping.
