I recently adopted a baby Ig that has MBD. The vet told
me to add a pinch of tums daily to his food to get this
corrected.
I have also started adding this to my yearling Redfoot's diet
as well. Does anyone see a problem with this?
Thanks
Linda

Lots of people use this without a problem but there are sources with less additives (flavoring and sugar). That's why cuttlebone is so popular. It is easy to obtain and it is pretty much pure calcium carbonate.

many of my turtles won't go near cuttlebone but i have had lots of success with various calcium carbonate and calcium gluconate pills made for humans. get the ones made to be swallowed with no sugar added.
I just grate the cuttlebone over their veggies mix the powder in to the salad.
they eat and have no idea that they are doing so. I tried leaving bits of it in the pen for them to eat but they never touched it.
Of course this method is OUT for any aquatics but does the trick for torts.

I take eggshells and boil them for at least 15 minuts, then I crush them into a powder. It's a bit of work, but it is free and saves you a trip to the petstore for the cuttlebone. You boil them to kill all the bacteria.
You could just sprinkle calcium carbonate on their food - thats what I do, in addition to the cuttlebone, which I think over time, looses its fishy smell.
Just curious what are turns?
Boy, your eyes are worse than mine, unless you're joking, of course. T-U-M-S, Tums!

Funny,
guess my eyes were playing tricks on me, I'm 20/20!

I have my 11 year old read medicine labels to me, because the writing is so small (which just goes to prove what goes around really does come around, because I used to tease my dad when he complained about small writing on labels).
