Quick question about heat tape Rob????

jack7777766 May 29, 2003 09:49 AM

Hi,
I have seen rob;s great post on how to wire the heat tape an Im thinkng ogchanging to this method.
I just have a question as to connecting the tape to the dimmer, does the tape have that wire to connect it to the dimmer??? Does the wire come from the dimmer???
Because I know they sell heat tape by the foot and rol, and I think that by the foot they just cut it for you so if they cut it do they cut it and leave wire or add it???

Oh and were did you get your heat tape?

Thanks
Jack

Heat tape comes in a roll of one foot sections that can be cut. The tape will have two connectors, that you connect wire to. Use the clips or solder the wire to the tape. Connect the wire to the dimmer, and the dimmer to an extension cord. Make sure all exposed ends are covered with electrical tape or zap!!!.

Works like a charm.

I am running 3 pieces of 3 feet of tape off of my dimmer. 6 shelves= 2 dimmers 3 pieces of 3' tape each dimmer.

Home depot, lowes, menards, sears hardware electrical departments. I use 10 guage insulated wire, sheer off the ends and connect to heat tape and dimmer.
