Grrr. They are fighting!

Vel Oct 24, 2003 01:40 PM

So I woke up today to see the anoles bobbing heads and opening their mouths and nipping at each other.

I was under the assumption the one was a female. I picked both of them up to check and see if there's any differences in the flap area and there is no difference between either of them. It's just all flat. Is thre any good way to determine what sex these are?

You should know how to determine gender differences before you bought your anoles, or else you may have ended up with two males just like right now. Anyway, to determine males, males have two visible scales under the vent, and these are known as post anal scales. They also have a vent hemipenile bulge at the base of their tail. Males have larger heads in proportion to their bodies than female Anoles. Crests are also available along their back, although it's hidden most of the time.
