white silly string?

CRToon83 Oct 24, 2003 01:49 PM

I just got back home after being gone for about 2 hours and I noticed my softshell's tank had white silly-string like stuff all in the tank. It had the consistancey of silly string, but it was a lot thinner. I cleaned it out immedately, what is this stuff? -Chris

I'm no vet, but could it be parasites? Or possibly some mucus passed from the gut. How much of this stuff? A few bits or a lot?

if i took it out and measured the length...which i didnt...i'd guess it was about 4 feet long. I was just wondering if this was normal orn ot. I'm keeping his water around 80 degrees...and he's not eating either. I rearranged his tank so I gave him a week or so for the shock of the tank rearrangement, and he hasnt started eating again. I dunno what to do!

Dude, I can't imagine what that stuff is. Don't sweat it. I once had a couple of yearling softshells that quit eating for two weeks after I moved them. They eventually began eating again. Try a few ghost shrimp.

The eating isn't bothering me as much as what that white silly string type stuff is...now it's coming out of my girlfriends RES 4 month old turtle. The other one isn't doing it, and they are in another tank on the other side of town from my softy. I noticed it this morning on hers, it's coming out of the tail.
