Here is the temp tank for now!

wcumagic Oct 24, 2003 02:27 PM

Just got a few plants into the temp tank yesterday. It's a temp tank because after we move in a few months, I will add my background with water feature and other things. BUT, I have to wait because the tank itself is so heavy it is almost impossible to move with 2 people. I cant make it any heavier before the move, thus the reason for the temp tank.

I have the humidifier setup to come on for 20 minutes every 2 hours, but I may turn it down to 10 minutes. It fills up the tank with mist so the visibility in the tank is about 3 inches.

Tell me what you think! I think it needs more plants, but I dont want to really buy anything that I cant use in the permanant tank. Any ideas?

thanks in advance!
matt

I know the camera is kinda dated, but you can kinda imagine details.

Hey Matt. Nice looking tank. Yeah, I would suggest some more plants. After you add the background, I would mount bromeliads and drape or grow vining plants on it. As far as the substrate area, I would add an Alocasia or twwo and maybe a brom also. What kind of frogs are you putting in it?

Hi Matt,

The moss looks very nice. It also looks like you have a lot of height to play around with. Once the tank is in the permenant position maybe add some more pieces of wood to give a little more dimension. Once you add a background it will really complete the tank and fill in all of the room at the top. Also, are those tillandsias scattered around the ground? I've had very bad luck keeping them on the floor in my terrariums because they stay too moist and start to rot. Tillandsias/air plants need to dry out completely between waterings and if they are placed on moist soil they probably won't be able to do that. Maybe you could remove them from the terrarium and keep them outside of the tank or you could try mounting them on that branch you have in there. Anyways, nice tank, please post more pictures when its complete.

I would definitely put more hiding places and thicker medium height of plants. What ever frogs are going in there would really appreciate more cover. The orchids, moss, etc look great, just need more cover. Even if you want to throw in a bunch of oak leaves and some cork pieces, any places for them to hide will help out a lot.
