Pygmy cham keepers...need your input

trinacliff Oct 24, 2003 03:20 PM

I'm thinking of switching my pygmies to a screen or partially screen enclosure...I've recently heard of more people keeping them this way and having success with them.

I'd be curious to know who here keeps theirs in screen cages and who keeps them in tanks? Do you have drainage set up? I've recently heard of several that are misting so much that they need drainage at the bottom of the cage...I haven't had a problem so far, so I must not be misting enough (long enough each time)

Thanks!
Kristen

hmmm....where have you been hearing this? As for the swamp on the bottom of the tank I think is really dependent on the type, depth and drainage set up you have for substrate. If you have used the small stones underneath your substrate for drainage you shouldn't have the swamp problem. As for the screen thing...well, it'll be intersting to hear what others have to say.

Hearing it on chamfolk...a few people on there keep them in screened enclosures...one has been having great luck taking them to several generations. So, I figure with all my bad luck, maybe I'm doing the tank thing wrong...maybe screen will do better for me. LOL

that's interesting! But they just denied my membership so I have no respect for any of them! (kidding, but I am very insulted!)

Just to provide a clarification, to be admitted to Chamfolk, we as the moderators of the list require certain information regarding your intentions in order to be admitted. After you applied to be admitted on August 8th, you were sent an email with the standard questions we require for admission. When we did not receive a reply after 2 1/2 months, your request was denied as we had to assume you were not serious about subscribing to the list. Denying you was not intended as an insult, we simply did not receive the required information. You are welcome to reapply but at this moment we still require applicants to reply to this email as it describes. Once we receive your reply, we will determine if we feel the list is right for you and base our final decision on that. On a side note, we are currently considering altering our admission requirements to prevent various problems we have been having with applications so please refer to the list blurb on the Chamfolk yahoo site.

Regarding caging your Rhampholeon, many do keep their Rhampholeon in mesh enclosures with success. I still keep mine in screen topped tanks. I put a couple inches of gravel in the bottom to aid in drainage.

Regards,
Chris
