Getting a new snake, which one?

cito Oct 24, 2003 04:19 PM

I've decided to let go my wild snakes, and purchase a new captive snake(if i can talk him into it) So far i've had 3 balls, and two boa constrictors. I'm looking for a snake that gets to be about the size of a boa constrictor ( 10-15 feet) Do you have any suggetions on what kind of snake to get, where to get it, how much they cost, wheather or not they are common in pet stores, and their cage setup? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. -if your going to say go to a reptile show, its out of the question

Contact someone like Bob Clark (www.bobclark.com)or Pro Exotics (www.proexotics.com), they both deal in a wide variety of snakes and can help you find the right snake for you.

If you go with a burm, 10-15 is a low end size. I would NOT recommend a burm if thats the max you can go. Remember, a female burm CAN get 20' and UP. A male can certainly stay in your range but can easily exceed your range. If you arent prepared to deal with a snake that could VERY easily exceed 15 feet, don't get a burm. No matter the gender, they can break 20'. There are so many animals out there that fit your range, go with something else. I love burms to death, but they are not an animal to have size expectations with.
My female green is nearing 13' in under 3 years of age with no power-feeding.
