Any of you have or know someone who has this morph?

FalconBlade Oct 25, 2003 12:34 AM

I recently obtained a couple of these D. auratus. Not knowing what morph they were, I got ahold of the man who has their founding stock which are WC, making these F1. They are the 'zwartgroene' morphed, named in an issue of the Dutch newsletter back in the 80's. Very uncommon morph and I fear that my chances of pairing them off are pretty slim. So, if any of you know someone who has this morph, please let me know, as I would love to pass these on!
A small gallery for them.

that just means black and green morph. they don't look that rare

Well, according to the man that I got them from, they aren't anywhere near common. The coloration borders teal, so they aren't your usual green colored auratus.

hey,
Don't get offended but to me they look like really nice green auratus and nothing more. I thought teal was more blue maybe the pictures don't do them justice.

Others will probably know more about this, i may be wrong.

Well, the coloration has a slight blue tinge to it, but mostly due to the lines being much thinner than the common green and black. My camera is just being fussy since I messed with the manual settings (I'm no photo pro). The question still remains, if they aren't uncommon like I'm being told, then where are they? Who has them for sale? I have only seen a few pictures of this morph, but have never seen them for sale before. They are a Panamanian species that comes from a population in the Canal area. They are offspring of Chuck Powell's WC trio which he has had for 16 years now. If anyone can find some for sale, I'm all eyes (my ears don't quite function

it could be a tobago morph. i think they have more black than green. i saw this pic of a panamanian green/black, and it look similar to yours.

Very similar. The thing is, the auratus group is a very, very diverse group and most of the diversity happpens in Panama. There is a nice abundance of photos of this variation, but finding them for sale is another story. They seem to be common to the eyes, but common in actual availability is something else. I'd love to find some more of these and have been looking pretty hard lately. That picture you provided looks alot like mine...the coloration is very similar and you can see the blue tinge to it. I'm hoping that Chuck's trio produces a few more before they pass away (they've been in his care for 16 years and were obtained as WC adults). The next batch that they produce, if any, will got to me and him. He produced nearly 400 offspring over the years but sadly, never held any back for himself. If any of you stumble across any for sale, let me know. I doubt you will though.
