sexing BTS?

smoke Oct 25, 2003 09:24 AM

I have recently fallen for BTS and have gotten rid of all my snakes and other herps to concentrate on these adorable animals. I have 2 adults and a youngster so far but can't find any info on sexing them. I did notice that on one of the adults there are what appears to be bulges at the base of its tail behind the vent. Do males sometimes have hemipene bulges? The thing is is that this one is very aggressive toward the others if it is allowed anywhere near them but the other adult has a bit of a wider head, at least it sort of looks like it. Any oppinions? Mike.

Hi, Mike:
Hemipenile bulges are generally indicative of a male, but as you may have already learned if you've been reading up on them, BTS are notoriously difficult to sex.
And I agree, they are incredibly awesome pets as far as lizards go.
