New to the bearded world - Are carpets ok to use? What is the white stuff in their poop?

I am new to the bearded world and have beardeds in my classroom. I am trying to figure out all the in's and out's of these great animals.Don't worry, they are not left for two days at a time. At some point they will be left for a day with a supply of freeze-dried crickets - Will that cause any problems? Is it ok to use the indoor carpet they sell at pet stores as a substrate? Do the beardeds need a place to burrow? Mine burrow a little into the sand presently. secondly, when my dragons poop there is a white chunk of something - is that normal? I can't find reference to it anywhere. Thanks for your help.

Hi!
As long as the freeze dried crickets are not too big, they should be fine. You want to make sure that they are no bigger than the space between the dragons eyes. If they will be left for a day, make sure you have a timer for the lights. 12-14 hours of daylight is ideal.
The indoor carpet is fine, although a little hard to clean. The poop just sort of gets ground into it. You could use paper towels, newspaper or a great idea that Mattman came up with, non slip shelf liner that you can find at a lot of dollar stores. Thanks Mattman!
Oh and the white stuff you see is called urate. It's perfectly normal and is to them what urine is to us.
Good luck! Hope this helps.
