Ummmm, almost never would be best. Uromastyx have to eat GREENS , and a large variety of greens. (Kale, mustards, dandelion, some collards, wheatgrass... see www.deerfernfarms.com for a complete list of greens)
Although your uro will chase every cricket and bug you put in there, it's not good for him. Uromastyx can become addicted to insects and refuse greens. Insects do not have the correct nutritional value for a Uromastyx to be completely healthy. Start to feed him piles of chopped dandelion and kale and watch him grow. Keep us updated on his diet! What kind of Uromastyx do you have?

Thanks , he is a six month old geyri.
Had him since Friday 6pm and it's now monday eve , he has only eaten a few bits of greens, kale , and a few peas every day , Not much ?????
He is very lively , poo'd ok , digging etc , even not so scared of me , but i feel he should eat more ? worried he will get ill
and needs to eat more
Sara ..
Don't worry - if he's eating even a little, it's good. It may take a couple days or even a couple of weeks for him to get settled in enough to eat. As long as he's active and pooing, it sounds like he's fine. Try to avoid handling him if you can to keep the stress levels minimal, and he should be eating in no time.

Sounds pretty good actually. Try to always keep a pile of fresh greens in the cage for him. Peas are a good food to add some weight if he is skinny. Make sure that he has a basking area that is around 105 degrees. (150 watt spotlight at a distance of 15 inches will do this). He's going to take a few days or weeks to get used to everything.
If you can, put him in some direct UNFILTERED sunlight. (not through a glass window.) Basking in natural sunlight is the best possible thing for a Uromastyx, for aid in food digestion, calcium absorption, and Vitamin D3 replication.

Hi Paul , thanks for your help and advice
I'm in the UK so no sun here

I am making sure there is always greens there for him
His basking area is nice and hot 105-110 degrees .
I don't think he is skinny yet , but am worried if he does not eat
soon he will get skinny
and ill
But he seems fine in himself , I'm just hoping he
has eaten while I'm at work today

Yeah there's no sun, but you have all the good music, fast cars, and Formula1. Good to hear people keeping Uromastyx everywhere!
