What's wrong with her??

Heather Oct 25, 2003 12:12 PM

In the Begining of September We got a couple Beautiful 3-4 month old girls. One, Absinthe, Is actually the younger (or so we were told) and She's just over 14 inches. She runs around and has such an attitude. Eating, moving, and growing normally. The other one, Amaretta, Is growing but is growing very slowly. She's just over 11 inches. And we were told that She's about a month older..... She doesn't move around much. And example, This morning She was sitting on Her half log cave. This afternoon, She was sitting in the exact same spot... Hasn't moved.... She's not skinny, actually has quite a belly on her. But Her skin is wrinkly, Not rounded like Absinthe's... She use to down her whole bowl within an hour of getting it.... Now, Today, She's not touching it.... I moved her onto her hot spot hoping She'd warm up and perk up. Yesterday everyone got crickets. She was running around chomping them up but before and after that, She didn't move around much.... She has Her UVB and Heat. Temps are Perfect. She's on Wheat Bran For substrate. I don't know what else to do.... Begining of the month was the first time I've given Parazap. Should I dose her again even though It's not November yet?? Aren't you suppose to do that once a month? I'm about to try soaking Her to see if that helps her any... I don't know what I'm doing wrong.... I'm starting to worry... Any advice??? Sorry for the long post....

This sluggish lethargic behavior can be caused by dehydration. You also talked about her shin looking wrinkled and not like the others. I would make sure she is getting water. This is the most common, and overlooked part of keeping a happy healthy dragon. Young dragons are especially more susceptible to this. I notice with mine once in a while if they are not acting themselves a little hydration is all they needed and the next day when the liquid makes it into the body they are much more active and alert. This is one suggestion I would take a look at. Baths don't always hydrate good enough. If you have an eye dropper or needless feeding syringe try giving water or a Gatorade/water mixture like that so you know the dragon is getting it. If she will not take it at first gently part the back of her lips and drip some in. Once they taste the sweet taste it usually triggers a licking response. Do not squirt in the mouth but drip it in so not to let the beardie inhale liquid. I also recommend taking in a fecal test to rule out parasites as well.

I do give water to her in an oral syringe at least once every other day. It's more of a Water/Pedialite mixture.... She also has a water bowl in her house.... I'll try the gaterade now.... Any special flavor? Thanks for your help.

Since you giving liquid every other day that should be plenty to keep it hydrated. I would take a fecal sample in to be checked for parasites. One other thing that would cause this is a not hot enough basking spot which you claim is perfect, 105 to 115 surface temps? Also if you are keeping all these dragons together there might be some dominance amoung them.

Mattman, They are Seperated. Temps are about 105-110 on basking spot. I'll try to convince My parents to let me get a fecal done.... Lots of bills right now but I'm gonna push for it....

B22, I gave it for six days as a tea. I gave Her 1 cc (1 ml) twice a day for six days..... Should I start that again even though it hasn't been a month?
