Tegus or Monitor

svt-sinister Oct 25, 2003 12:51 PM

Well im looking to get a monitor or tegus but i have to keep the cage in my room and was wondering what would be a good tegu or monitor for me.. I have a cage now that is 4x2x2 but i could make it a little bit bigger. How big do tegus get? Which species should i go with?

That tank would be too small for either a tegu or monitor. They would grow out of it very fast. Check out the web sites bluetegu.com and Agama International for caresheets and husbandry info.

That would not really be small for all types of tegus or monitors, but it would be for most. Look into maybe chilean dwarf tegus, red/yellow ackies, kimberly rock monitors(pricey, lol), and there are some others as well that may interest you. If you step up to a 6 x 2 or 6 x 3, then you should be set for some of the larger animals.

Dwarf Tegu or Ackies. That size will be too small for any other grown Tegu or monitor. Good luck in your search!

Hmmm, seems most people forget that there are actually another type of tegus out there......... wish I could too.

Columbian Tegus dont get as big and with enough handling become pretty sweet. Maybe not as easily as argentines but still sweet in the long run. They also stay smaller. I still think if you want to do a tegu in a limited space, these are the ones, if not then Ackies are a great monitor. Billy told ya right.
