I live 45 minutes away from my vet what would be the best way to get a fresh sample to him?
Since the poop will probably sit in the tank for a few hours before you get it (mine almost always poop overnight) I seriously doubt 45 mins will hurt anything. If there are parasites to be found they should still be there. You could probably take in 1 or 2 day old poop, but a fresh sample is best.
Good luck, hope the poop is clean

Just make sure the poop's not dry by the time you get it to the vet. Seal it up in a Ziploc bag. If you have to wait overnight, store it in the fridge.

by the way i house two females togther any ideas on how to find out whos is who?
Since they are housed together, it is pretty safe to say that if one of them has parasites, both have them.
In my opinion, just take the freshest one you can find, and if anything is found, have both of them treated. Other than that maybe bring in 2 samples and get them both checked out.

I wanted to take a stool sample in to the vets on a Leo that had lost weight and was not eating well. But since she wasn't eating much, she wasn't pooping much. I brought her along in hopes she'd maybe poop on the way to the vets (my vet is about 1/2 hour to 45 minutes away depending on traffic and weather). I got there and she still hadn't pooped. The vet held her up and she actually pooped right onto the slide! What a good girl. Can't get fresher than that! The vet was able to make a diagnosis and prescribe meds and she's doing much better. Good luck with whatever you are testing your girls for. Hope everything turns out OK.
