keeping mealworms

ericmc83 Oct 25, 2003 03:32 PM

I'm wondering what is best to keep mealworms in. I have some rubbermaid things to keep them in, but what do I need to put in there for them to live in? moss? dirt? Also any other tips concerning keeping them would be appreciated...including what to feed them. Thanks in advance ~Eric M

I keep mine in a deli cup with a bunch of gutload. They love to burrow & do fine.

Just make a 2-inch layer of gutload and let them live on that. I use baby cereal (really cheap) and fish flake food to make up the bulk of the substrate.

I have superworms and meal worms in a kritter keeper tank, with about 1" of food in there
I forgot about the fish food
and the baby cerial sounds like a good idea also
I have heard that Flax meal is good for them also
baby superworms are TINY, smaller than meal woroms
watching them burrow is neat to see
