Okay, I realize the tank says "Princess" its just an old tank that was previously occupied and I can't get the tag off.

What substrate are you using?

Kaitlyn Oct 25, 2003 10:49 PM

I am using um I think T-rex brand calsi-sand, and the rocks are sand stone harvested from my backyard, with a few green plastic leaves here and there for color.

You can never have just one gecko. Actually it is almost impossible to have two

What are the temperatures on the substrate? It looks like about a 10gal and your light is in the center. Do you have an undertank heater?

I'm guessing the cage doesn't provide a temp gradient of from 88-90F on the warm 'end' to 75-80 on the cool end. You really need to use a thermometer on the substrate to ensure you get the right temps where your gecko will spend the most of its time. You may be able to do that just by moving the light to one side of the tank. ProExotics sells infrared thermometer

Another think it looks like you're missing is a humid hide. Geckos do really well when they have a humid chamber to hang out in and assist in shedding. I don't always use one with my hatchlings, but I mist their hides every day and by the time they're 2-3 months old, I've given them plastic containers with BedaBeast.

ProExotics sells infrared thermometer 'guns' for $35, and/or you can get a digital thermometer with probe for $10 at Target.

Yes she does have and under tank heater, its located on the side opposite the water bowl. The substrate temp on the "hot" side is around 88-90deg.F. And the "cool" end is about 76deg.F. I do have a heat gun that I bought from LLL Reptile, and that is where I got the temps from.

She does have a moist hideout on the cool side, but it was not pictued there. I had taked the rocks apart to get her out to check her toes because she had just recently shed.

Hope this clears things up

I guess with the sand some of the heat is dissipating from the heating pad so it doesn't get too hot. I like the rocks stacked up. Are those the rocks you see at pet stores sometimes sold in a set? Are they pretty sturdy? Looks cool.

nope, those are slabs of sandstone I harvested from my backyard and chisled into shape. The are very sturdy because I filed the rocks down flat so they fit nicely together. They can stand Sway climbing all over them at night. She sometimes digs the sand around the base of the rocks, and I have to go and re-do the cage because it looks wierd with the glass bottom showing. Thats why I liked the calsi-sand, my Le LOVES to dig, and it lets her do that without the fear of ingesting actual sand sand if you know what I mean.

The rocks usually look better than they are pictured, but I just flung them together really quick so I could get a pic taken. I have seen those orange kinda tile like rocks at PetStores, If thats what you are talking about. But I don't like how they look, I think sandstone gives it that desert feel

You can look around for nice rocks to use, and they are cheaper than the ones at the petstores and look more natural. But if you don't have any sandstone in your area, limestones would also look nice. You can find that around streams and rivers.

Happy herping
