Is my sulcata hibernating?

ricci21 Oct 25, 2003 04:50 PM

one of my almost-yearling sulcatas seems not to be eating much and has become rather "sluggish". he is not as active as he used to be and his eyes are almost always closed, even when he is outside in the sun. i never thought that sulcatas hibernated, but was told that that is why he could be acting this way. is this true or should i be worried? i would love any advice anyone has on the situation. thanks.

A sulcata that young with eyes closed and non-active usually indicates URI. I'd have a vet check him out. If he is with other animals, you may want to separate until you know more.

As mentioned, Sulcatas don't hibernate. They come from a very hot region in Africa and should show good signs of daily activity. They are also the best feeders around.

I agree, probraly sick. I would get to a vet ASAP. Also, what kind of set up do you have. Husbandry is often the culprit when these guys get sick.

good luck
