Where are all the Argentine breeders?

Thomas S. May 29, 2003 12:12 PM

I've been on the lookout for a male baby Argentine to eventually breed with my female. I've been looking at the classifieds daily and hardly ever see Argentines for sale. I see adults for sale occasionally and Argy crosses too often. I have several theories as to why. Maybe not as many people are breeding pure Argentines because there is no money in them? Or perhaps they are just not in season yet? I've heard that they breed later in the year...do they all sell immediately? Seems like I would see some yearlings at least. Or are people only sell them locally because they aren't deemed "worthy" or classified space? Maybe the KS classifieds are not the best indicator but it concerns me that I am not seeing them there at all.

I'm not sure about exactly when but it appears that the majority of the true redtails bred in captivity in this country are produced in july-september.. and sometimes as late as november.

I'm expecting argentines late june early july. After they have all shed and feed a few times they will be posted on KS. So if you don't find any at the show, you will see them on KS this july for sure. Thank you, Lee
