baby girl wont eat

the-mikester Oct 25, 2003 06:58 PM

ive tried, mice ive tried rats, ive tried leaving them in her cage over night, ive tried leaving them with her in a paper bag. ive tried braining the mice. im now finally trying a small live mouse. ive had her for three weeks and she is very skinny. i got her at a show and the guy i got her from said she had eaten twice. once had been a week before that. i know four weeks isnt really a long time and i wouldnt worry so much if she wasnt getting skinnier. im some what frustrated. i was just hopin someone had some kind of different way of getting your snakes to eat.
...help...

maybe try putting the mouse in chicken broth and then trying to feed her?

but it still isnt working. im gonna leave the mouse in there over night see if that works. ive also been covering the cage with dark shirts some of the times ive fed her. (shes in an aquarium but has constrcution paper covering two sides). maybe its the conditions in her cage. the humidity is usually around 50-60% and the hot side during the day is about 90 - 95ºF. she always hangs out on the hot side but i dont want to raise the temps too much. oh and shes a BCI in case you wonder... i hope you can help. thanks

Hi, if you can try placing the pink in her mouth gently, sometimes this will encourage them to go ahead a feed, it may take a couple of times for her to get the idea. I have found that some babies that are being stubborn about feeding, this has worked very well for me.
Hope this helps let me know

alright i did it but she wouldnt swallow it she just spit it out. and it stressed her out. are you saying i should try this every few days hoping shell take it? also could she not be eating due to some kind of parasite? i dont think this is likely because i got it at a show. it was on of a whole captive bred brood.

Hi,
All I can tell you is that this is what has worked well for me in the past, I have had to do it every 2 to 3 days for a while, time wise depending on the animal, some take it right off, some longer to get them to take it. Yes, it can be stressful for them, but I have had them stop fighting it and go ahead and take it. I have also run into where I had to force feed them to get them to finely eat. Its hard to really say why she isn't eating, if you are only going by what someone said. If there is something else wrong, other than her just being stubborn, then it may not work and you may need to find a good Vet that does Reptiles. All you can do it keep trying with her and not do to many changes, that will also cause her more stress.
I wish you the best with her.
