How can i feed my baby snapper in his tank?

turtlequest Oct 25, 2003 07:23 PM

I have a hatchling snapper, and i usually take him out into a seperate container to eat...but he doesnt eat alot when he i do this. He is scared i guess. But if you look at my setup, you will notice that a 20 gallon tank is kind of big for a hatchling.

How do i put food in there and know he will eat it?
The filter creates a strong current that just carries the food around the tank.
Also, the food just seems to fall into the rocks and get lost.
I put some fish in there, but im not sure if he is big enough to actually hunt them yet.

Also, how much food does a hatchling snapper eat a day? Mine will only eat 2 pinchfulls of chicken or 3 or 4 baby reptomin pellets a day.

I would expect him to eat more.

any help on feeding him would be appreciated, and also any pics of hatchling snapper setups...so i know how to create mine.

thanks.

My snapper was one ounce when I placed him in his nearly full 100 gallon tank, 6 years ago. He had no trouble swimming around and catching goldfish, guppies or tuffy minnows. When the fish would not come to him he would swim around following the fish with his mouth open and his fishing lure just a going.
