Very bad Hatchling update

mike3 Oct 25, 2003 08:30 PM

Most of you already know i have 3 hatchlings and i had to separate one of them from the others. So i had two hatchlings together, like someone here said might happen, one of the submissive hatchlings became dominate and really attacked the other hatchling. It didn't happen the second i put them together. They were together for 1 day with everything going great then on the third morning i found the submissive hatchling with hardening on the sides, scales missing from the center of the tail, and bite marks on left knee. First i weighed it and it went from 14 to 11 grams. Then, i gave it a warm bath, after that i put neosporon on its tinny cuts just in case, and bought him his own 30 gallon cage with everything he needs. Now one day later he is back to 14 grams, very active, and eating great. I took him to a great pet store where one of the employees knows everything about uros and he checked the little guy out, and told me that the other hatchling barely brock the skin, and the little guy is definatly going to be fine. Now when i look at him i can only see a few scalse missing on his tail and the hardening sides. I am going to take him and all my other uros to the vet in few weeks, because the big guys are coming out of brumation in a few weeks so i will just get all of their check-ups done with one visit. So what i am trying to say in this HUGE paragraph is the the hatchling got minor injuries, and is going to be fine. The only thing i am worried about are a few toes. There are 2 toes that look like they might fall off but hopefully they will will heal and go back to normal.

PS
At what age can i house my hatchlings on bird seeds. They are going to be 11 weeks old tom. Should i use bird seeds as a substrate or should i just stick with paper. Which one is best for them.

PSS
All of my hatchlings are between 4 and 4 1/2 inches long. They are 14-15 grams each. Is this normal for 11 week olds. If not what should they be, and should i brumate them. At the momment i am not going to but wouldn't it be more natural if i did.

The toes are back to normal, and he is back to his normal weight. The only thing i am worried about is his tail. A few rows of spikes have been bitten off. Its not bleeding or anything but they are gone. Do any of you know if the spikes on the tail will grow back after bitten off. And his sides are hard from being nipped, how long do you guys think until that will go away. So he is fine, and hopefully the tail will heal with time.
