My two gophers got out! I looked in all the easy places. Can I lure them out with food? Is their sense of smell that keen? I know if I don't find them they might die! Any advice will be helpful! Man those buggers are clever! Pushed the screen right off the tank! and they are just hatchlings!!! thanks folks!

sorry to hear of the great escape.. ive bneen there.. first i would check all the dark warm places in whatever room they were in, they will go there first. my biggets pine got out when i first got her and she ended up under the fridge near the compressor.. bad place to get a pissy pine out of. if they are real small your in for some fun. keep me posted if you find them,

Try looking in all warm, tight spaces. You can try leaving a heat pad with some sort of hide out, along with a bowl of water. But do not give up hope if you can't find them. I lost my gopher for 4 months. She showed up Easter Weekend climbing on top of the bathroom door. Sometimes the second you forget about them is right when you find them. Andy

Another good idea could be leaving baking soda on the floor in door ways so you can have a general idea if the snake moves or not to a different room in the house. Andy

Check behind, inside, and underneath all furniture, going carefully. Check inside all closets. Check higher up, on bookshelves behind or on top of books. I read about one fellow who found his cornsnake on top of a picture frame! They will go for any dark, quiet, close place they can find.

My albino bulls escaped from a closed Neodesha (!?!) but I found them behind the shelf I keep them on. My house snake escaped for an hour from a cage left open (not by me) but she only crawled under a nearby spare water dish. I think they pretty much just crawl to the nearest warm, dark place, and lay up there until the urge strikes them to move again.

When my leucistic rat got out, I relied on my other household pets to 'tell' me when something was wrong. I was lucky. One cat came to get me while the other stayed to watch the 'intruder'. Otherwise I'm afraid I never would've found her! Thank God cat #2 was always an indoor cat and didn't know to kill and eat snakes. And my leucistic had 2 big lumps in her belly -- she'd eaten while she was gone. I don't think she's ever forgiven me for rescuing her from her walkabout.

Have hope. You can find your babies with a little luck and a lot of persistence. Just remember -- noplace is too weird for them to hide. Filing cabinets, sock drawers, look everywhere.

Best of luck!
