RED and white Candy Canes

eighteenmonther Oct 25, 2003 11:38 PM

To all candy cane corn fans, who in anyone's opinion has the best and cleanest red and white candys out there? I don't consider the orange and white animals candy's, but rather different looking amels. I've seen only one or two pics in the past of high quality red and white's, with little or virtually no red or orange "contamination" netting within the white ground color. Any pics and breeder info. would be much appreciated!

Thanks!

John

Hi there! I LOVE candy canes! From pictures I've seen Don Soderberg has really nice candy cane stock. However I think it is the oranges that have the cleanest whitest backgrounds more often than the reds. I am hoping to produce some nice candy canes next year - I've got an orange male and both orange and red females. Actually I have a red male too but he's not going to be big enough to breed next year. I also think Frank Pinello has a super candy cane breeder, and I was hoping to get some "super" Miamis and Candys from him this year, but he said those clutches didn't work out. Maybe next year.

Good luck!

Has some great Miami/Candy Cane lines. I plan on breeding this girl into my Miami Motley project.

That has to be one of the nicest candycanes I have seen. That is what I call "eye candy"!!!!

Carols says while kicking herself for not bringing home any of Clint's Orange Candy Canes! Too many snakes!!! BTW, guess where todays expected shipment of corns is at? They got shipped to San Juan Puerto Rico instead of San Jose California. Now that ought to really scare you out of shipping.

San Juan?

I hope they hold up OK. Are they being rerouted now? That's just too crazy!

carol Oct 26, 2003 05:23 PM

I was sapposed to pick them up at the airport at 10:30, and I decided to call ahead. I contacted them another 2 times over the next 3 hours. Each time the Delta D. representative tried to contact the people in San Juan, they didn't answer the phone. The last time I called, thier office was due to close in 30 min. and still nothing. I Faxed a letter and D.D. put in an electronic request for it to be rerouted. So far no word. Sounds like the Delta D. people in San Juan had a beach day! Murphy loves me.

Carol,

That animal is hands-down spectacular!!! I used to work with candy canes and would love to again.

P.S. Do you have Walter Smith’s website address and/or email? What do Frank Pinello’s “super” candy canes that you mentioned look like? Does he have a website or pics posted somewhere that I could check out? Thanks again!

To Traci and Carol and everyone who replied, thank you! That's a gorgeous CC you have Carol. Do either you or Traci have Frank Pinello's website(if he heas one) URL, or contact info so I could check out what a super candy cane looks like? It sounds awesome. I've seen Don Soderberg's animals on his site, they're nice, but I am partial, to say the least to the red/white combo vs. inclusion or any orange, but that wide bordered close up of that red/white/orange juvy was cool. Finally, Traci and/or Carol, do either of you expect to have hatchlings for sale next year, and how predictably red and white would they stay, if you can say. Thanks again! Very cool pics!

She was a yearling at the time of the pic. She is a little over 2 now, but she still looks exactly the same. Eighteenmonther... I am not sure yet if she will make it to breeding size by next season, but if she does, she is going to be used for a Candy Cane Motley project so she most likely will be producing Miamis het Motley and Candy Cane.

Carol... Glad to hear that she didn't fade out or anything. Let me know how the project turns out.

Sorry to hear that Walter Smith is cuttin loose.
