About wax worms..

djfuente Oct 26, 2003 01:20 AM

Are they ok for beardies? My girl is 12" long and was wondering if I could buy her some. Worm man has a special of 1000 crix and 250 waxworms for $22, are those too maany worms?

yes and no. they are good as treats and you could keep that many in the fridge but the key to waxies is that you limit the amount of times you feed them to her. otherwise she might get addicted and they are way to high in fat to feed on a regular basis.. do you have other herps.. such as leos or other dragons that you could feed off 250 as treats ONLY. if all you have is one dragon i don't how long you would be able to keep waxies in the fridge. you would have them for awhile.

hope all that rambling made sense

One a day should be alright.

Thats too often. I've heard that they should be given to them as treats maybe only about 2-3 times a week. They can starty liking them too much and forgetting about their crickets.

One waxworm a day isn't going to spoil them. I think that happens more when you feed quite a few at a time, and frquently. Only feeding one waxworm a day would leave the dragon still hungry and he would eat his crix and veggies.

I was a little worried about Giblet only being 12" long...is she large enough to take one on? The distance between her eyes is about 3/4" I don't know the average size of a wax worm.

Yes..I give my 8" dragon waxies.
Waxworms are real soft and small. Much of the concern about large prey is combined with chitin and ability to digest exoskeletons.
